== Events == ;July 1 : * – The Shanghai–Nanjing High-Speed Railway opens in China. Construction on the long high-speed rail line between Shanghai and Nanjing began in July 2008. The line is designed for train speeds up to in regular service. ;July 20 : * – The government of Andhra Pradesh announces that among the eight companies that submitted proposals, Larsen & Toubro is the preferred bidder for construction of the Hyderabad Metro in India, costing a proposed Rs122 billion. The state and federal governments will each finance 20% of the project while Larsen & Toubro will finance the remaining 60%. The project is expected to be completed in 2014. ;July 27 : * – The Inspectie Verkeer en Waterstaat (IVW) in the Netherlands issues a decree that railgrinders manufactured by Speno cannot be operated in the country until they can be proven to the IVW's satisfaction to be safe.
